OUR PENANG
Walk, eat, discover.
We loved walking around Penang. George Town is the sort of place that rewards you for taking your time, with beautiful streets, small shops, street art and something interesting appearing around almost every corner.
We stayed at The Blue Mansion — Cheong Fatt Tze, which gave us a great base for exploring the city. But it was really the combination of wandering and eating that made Penang work so well for us.
We had an amazing dinner at Peninsula House and particularly enjoyed hearing about their vegetable growing room. We ate at the communal table and then stayed for some after-dinner wine upstairs. It was one of those meals that became part of the experience rather than simply somewhere to eat.
We also enjoyed a nice lunch at the Eastern & Oriental Hotel and spent a day up on Penang Hill, where we had fantastic views over the city and saw plenty of wildlife and monkeys.

Peninsula House
An amazing dinner and one of our favourite experiences in Penang. We loved hearing about their vegetable growing room, eating at the communal table and enjoying wine upstairs afterwards.

Eastern & Oriental
We enjoyed a nice lunch at the E&O and would definitely include it when exploring George Town.

George Town
The best way to experience it is simply to walk. Street art, small shops and beautiful old streets make wandering part of the attraction.

Penang Hill
A great day out above the city, with fantastic views and plenty of wildlife and monkeys to keep things interesting.

The food
Penang has some amazing restaurants and food quickly became one of the main reasons we enjoyed the trip so much.

Leave plenty of time to wander.
What we loved most about Penang was how easy it was to spend a day without much of a plan. We would walk the streets of George Town, stop to look at street art, wander into small shops and eventually find somewhere good to eat.
Peninsula House was a particular highlight. The vegetable growing room was fascinating to hear about, and sitting at the communal table before heading upstairs for some after-dinner wine made the whole evening feel very personal.
Then there was Penang Hill, which gave us a completely different perspective on the city. The views were fantastic, but the wildlife and monkeys made the day just as memorable.
